Caribbean: Belize Map and Location

During the week the base is Hunting Caye in the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve. We leave on Jay Jay our 28ft skiff on Monday mornings and return to the mainland on Fridays.

The mainland weekend base is a traditional Belizean town in the south of Belize near to the Guatemala border called Punta Gorda, or PG locally. Punta Gorda is a seaside town with the Caribbean on one side and the jungle on the other. There are bars and restaurants, internet cafes and 2 banks where cash can be accessed by switch, credit cards or travelers cheques. 

Punta Gorda is a perfect location for weekend trips to the jungle, waterfalls, national parks, Mayan ruins or Guatemala.

If you book the Reef & Jungle package, you stay at Cotton Tree Lodge in the heart of the Belizean jungle on the beautiful Moho river.

Cotton Tree Lodge

Cotton Tree lodge has gorgeous cabanas built in local wood and situated well above the ground nestled in wild fig trees. Hickatee Cottages

Hickatee Cottages are situated about 1 mile from Punta Gorda town. The resort is in a beautiful setting nestled in the Belizean jungle. Hickatee is run by Ian and Kate an English couple who moved to Belize 15 years ago! The cottages are beautifully decorated in local wood with gorgeous verandahs where guests can chill out in hammocks. There is a bar and restaurant, the restaurant is of a high standard and is one of the best places to eat in Punta Gorda. There is a spa pool where guests can cool off while sunbathing. Guests also get free trips to the exclusive butterfly farm (no other visitors allowed) on Saturdays.
