Second Quarter 2009

We have had the most amazing diving during the past few months. To name just a few, we have sighted Whale Sharks, a Lemon shark, a huge Hammerhead shark (about 10ft!) and giant tuna. Also……..Black tips, Reef sharks, Jew fish (aka Goliath grouper), lots of enormous Loggerhead turtles, Hawksbill turtles and Manta rays etc, etc. I still find it incredible that we are so lucky to be based in one of the best diving locations in the world and there are barely any other divers!!!!!

ReefCI have completed a number of reef check surveys and it has been closed season for lobster which is a very important time to collect the lobster data that migrate to the wall in order for the females to release their eggs.

ReefCI have teamed up with Tradewinds luxury sailboats. They come to the island a couple of nights a week for a ReefCI presentation about the marine environment and dinner at our new beach bar and restaurant on Hunting caye, the Hawksbill cool spot. This is fun for the ReefCI customers who get a couple of nights a week hanging out with the sailboat guests and staff. It also is a great way to pass on the message of marine conservation and the work that ReefCI do here in Belize.
