The Boys
Ben, Clayton and Dukes are now all fully qualified Dive Masters. Their internship with ReefCI has given them they opportunity to go to a more touristy destination in Belize such as San Pedro or Caye Caulker and get well paid jobs. They have all become good friends and we will miss having them around. We have sponsored 2 more local youths who are going to start the next program in November. This is very rewarding work which helps the local people from Punta Gorda.
The rare species
Because we dive consistently in a remote area, we often get to see rare or new species. This quarter we have spotted the rare Shortnose Batfish, a Highhat, a huge Cobia, a 400Ib Jew Fish and a number of rays and sharks. In August we saw 3 manta rays in 1 week!!! We are working with Rachel Graham of WWF to assist with a project that she is working on with Sharks, Rays and Jew Fish. We are the only people consistently diving in the area so we report all sightings, sizes etc.
Melissa……loved having you back again and as usual your stay got extended…next time you should just book 5 weeks, you know you will stay the entire summer!!! And thanks again for a great few days in New York…..see you in January.
Mark…thanks again for your generous donation to ReefCI….it really does touch me to know that there are people who generally care about our environment and have so much passion….see you in February when you return.
And to Nigel W, Dave, Mark and Nigel E what a great group who gelled so well together, some lifelong friends have been made!!! …..what can I say, we had a fantastic few weeks…..seeing the turtles hatch and lay and the very next day swimming with dolphins before diving Honeymoon site where we spotted a group of 6-8 huge black groupers at different colours stages….and all this before breakfast!!!
It has been a very busy few months that I couldn’t have got through without all the help and support from Colin…..and the support from Karen in the UK….thanks guys.
Thanks to everyone who made my Birthday party so special….John for organising the whole thing including the brilliant DJ….and Molly for the gorgeous cake…Denise for all of your help and everyone else for dancing the night away and having such a brilliant time.
